About True North

In a region with a history of finger-pointing and political division, True North Organizing Network is working to carve out space in the political process for those who have historically not been heard or included.  We believe that human dignity is the heart of justice and progress, and that for a true and honest democracy to thrive, every person needs the opportunity to be heard and respected.

In 2014, True North leaders and staff participated in a “season of listening,” facilitating over 1000 conversations in North Coast communities. At the end, 220 people came together to set the course of the organization. United by shared values, community members identified five campaign issues for research and action: Water and the Environment, Immigrant Rights, Police Accountability, Mental Health and Homelessness, and Public Education.

In order to tackle these issues and improve our communities for all who call the North Coast home, True North facilitates community organizing efforts in our region. We provide resident leaders with the tools, coaching and infrastructure needed to create systemic change.

True North uses an organizing model called The Arc of Organizing, developed by the PICO National Network. This style of organizing is designed to support ongoing, long-term work and promote sustainability.

True North supports families, elders, youth, and individuals of diverse faith traditions, races, cultures, and economic capacities working together for powerful change. United, using the power of relationships and a disciplined community organizing model, True North leaders are courageously challenging social, economic, and environmental injustice in our region.
