COVID-19 Outreach

Since the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, True North has mobilized volunteers and resources across our region to keep our community safe, healthy and informed.

Vaccination Clinics

It all begins with an idea.

WHEN: April 2021
WHERE: DNATL and Humboldt

Throughout 2021, we assembled vaccination outreach teams of local leaders who used their insight on the local community to spread the word about the safety and availability of vaccines, and hosted vaccine clinics in both Humboldt and Del Norte counties.

In DNATL, our team knocked on over 200 doors and made over 400 phone calls. They also organized three vaccine clinics so far in which around 200 have been vaccinated and laid the groundwork for more pop-up clinics throughout the summer.

In Humboldt, we assembled an energetic team of four leaders who made over 800 phone calls and registered 300 people for vaccination appointments. They used their personal connections within the community to be a source of trusted information about vaccine safety and efficacy and get out the word about vaccination opportunities. The team also planned and executed a family vaccination fair with free tacos, a live DJ, a raffle, face painting, and more! More than 250 people showed up and we had over 100 people vaccinated.

Neighbors Together for Good

It all begins with an idea.

WHEN: April 2020
WHERE:
Del Norte County

When the pandemic turned the world upside down, True North mobilized to bring our community together to protect the most vulnerable among us.

We formed Neighbors Together for Good, a project aimed at ensuring that elderly folks and immunocompromised individuals were able to safely shelter in place, setting up a hotline and a network of volunteers to provide them with groceries, prescriptions, and other support.

We made a webpage with useful information about COVID-19, including COVID "mythbusting", tips and tricks for sheltering in place, local information about food banks and health clinics, and more.

Even though (thankfully!) the pandemic didn’t hit Humboldt or DNATL as hard as other parts of the country, we showed that we are a community that cares about each other and shows up for each other - and will continue to do so!

Now, as we enter a second peak of the virus, we know that we have the infrastructure and the compassion necessary to support each other.

Currently, we are collecting funds online for our neighbors who were left out of the stimulus package, including un- and underemployed Native Americans and undocumented individuals. Suzanne O’Dea has generously agreed to match all donations up to $5,000, so you can double your donation today! We have already raised $8,320 and begun distributing funds to our neighbors in need.
