The Eel River Valley Youth Mentorship Program
is a partnership between True North and the College of the Redwoods Multicultural & Equity Center (MEC), created to help young people explore their interests, develop leadership skills, and build meaningful relationships.
At the heart of the program is a simple belief: young people should help shape the opportunities created for them. Youth participants play an active role in guiding the program, sharing their ideas, identifying what matters most to them, and helping create experiences that reflect their goals and interests.

Through hands-on learning, participants explore college and career pathways while building the confidence and skills to make a difference in their communities.
Youth have opportunities to:
Explore college programs through campus visits and presentations from College of the Redwoods faculty and staff.
Learn practical life skills such as financial literacy, scholarship and grant applications, and career planning.
Visit local businesses, organizations, and workplaces to discover careers connected to their own interests.
Develop leadership skills by facilitating meetings, speaking publicly, researching community issues, and engaging with local decision-makers.
Build lasting relationships with peers, mentors, and community leaders.
True North believes leadership grows through relationships, shared experiences, and opportunities to put learning into practice.
The Youth Mentorship Program creates a welcoming space where young people can discover their strengths, explore their future, and develop the confidence to lead in school, work, and their communities.
