Vaccine outreach campaigns
Where: Humboldt and Del Norte Counties
When: May - August 2021
True North put together teams of leaders in both Humboldt and DNATL to perform outreach to underrepresented communities after witnessing the disparities in vaccination rates between racial groups in California. In Del Norte, our team of four brainstormed ways to connect with people and provide them with the resources and information necessary to get vaccinated.
They used their personal community connections to reach out to as many people as possible to spread the word about vaccine efficacy and availability. They knocked on over 200 doors and made over 400 phone calls. They also organized three vaccine clinics so far in which around 200 have been vaccinated and laid the groundwork for more pop-up clinics throughout the summer. We are currently expanding our team and exploring other creative avenues for outreach.
In Humboldt, we assembled an energetic team of four leaders who made over 800 phone calls and registered 300 people for vaccination appointments. They used their personal connections within the community to be a source of trusted information about vaccine safety and efficacy and get out the word about vaccination opportunities. The team also planned and executed a family vaccination fair with free tacos, a live DJ, a raffle, face painting, and more! More than 250 people showed up and we had over 100 people vaccinated.
